Below are some brief descriptions of positions we offer from time to time requiring little or no previous knowledge or experience with plants, greenhouse or laboratory work. GREENHOUSE ASSOCIATE

We offer numerous positions at our nursery division working in and around our modern greenhouses where we grow millions of plants every year for the horticulture industry. Working as a team, the greenhouse associates have various responsibilities to accomplish the goal of producing high-quality plants (see Greenhouse).  Following are brief descriptions of the most common job responsibilities as a Greenhouse Associate.

Planter: plants the plants received from various sources into cavity trays for further growing on.
Requirements: High School or equivalent preferred, reading and basic math skills. Sitting, bending, grasping, repetitive motion, lifting and carrying weights up to 15 lbs.

Consolidator: prepares plants for shipping to customers once the plants are fully grown.
Requirements: High School or equivalent preferred, reading and basic math skills. Walking, standing 8 or more hours per day on concrete floor, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, lifting and carrying weights up to 25 lbs., grasping. Hot and humid environment.

Shipper: Selects plants to fill customer orders and loads them in boxes or on truck for delivery.
Requirements: High School or equivalent preferred. Standing, walking, stooping, bending and reaching. Fine motor skills as well as lifting and carrying. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Reading and basic math skills. Hot and humid environment.

Maintenance: properly maintain greenhouse equipment and facilities.
Requirements: High School or equivalent preferred. Standing, walking, stooping, bending and reaching. Fine motor skills as well as lifting and carrying. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Hot and humid environment. Specialized skills or certifications required for working with heavy equipment, electrical, boilers and plumbing.

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN AND LABORATORY SUPPORT
Our tissue culture laboratory produces millions of plants every year using a process called plant tissue culture propagation where we clone or reproduce a large number of identical copies of elite plants.  For more details about the tissue culture laboratory click here.
Following are brief descriptions of the most common job responsibilities as a Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Support.

Production Technician: works in a clean room environment harvesting tissue cultured plants.
Requirements: High School or equivalent preferred, reading and basic math skills. Sitting, standing, use of arms, hands and fingers, repetitive motion and fine motor skills.  Bending, grasping, lifting overhead and carrying weights up to 15 lbs. Using forceps and sharp scalpels.

Laboratory Support: Various positions needed to support the laboratory production such as media preparation assistant, dishwashing, housekeeping, plant grading and shipping.
Requirements: High School or equivalent preferred, reading and basic math skills. Sitting, standing, use of arms, hands and fingers, repetitive motion and fine motor skills.  Bending, grasping, lifting overhead and carrying weights up to 25 lbs.
